Polymeric Scaffolds
Dr. Peter Ma, is an associate professor in the School of Dentistry's Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences. His research in tissue engineering is focused on the development of synthetic scaffolds, made from biodegradable polymers that permit the regulated growth of a variety of cell types including bone and cartilage. These novel scaffolding materials mimic the microarchitectures found in natural tissue (collagen) and serve as biological substitutes for regenerating tissues and organs that can then be transplanted during reconstructive surgery.
