Patrick Condit

Patrick Condit, who will soon finish his D1 year, was chosen to participate in an 8–week research program at the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research, NIH, in Bethesda, Maryland. Patrick’s research will be in the laboratory of Dr. Silvio Gutkind, Chief, Oral and Pharyngeal Cancer Branch, and Chief, Cell Growth Regulation Section and Molecular Carcinogenesis Unit.

Dr. Gutkind’s research interests include: molecular basis of signal transduction in cell proliferation, differentiation and neoplastic transformation; and, development of molecular markers of disease progression and novel therapeutic approaches for oral malignancies.

About the Program

The NIDCR Summer Dental Student Award is designed to give talented dental students hands-on research experience and exposure to the latest advances in oral health research. Selected candidates are assigned to mentors who conduct research in the students’ areas of interest. Participation in the program may result in presentation of research findings at a scientific meeting or co–authorship of scientific publications. The NIDCR offers this outstanding research training opportunity to dental students to expose future dentists to careers in research.
