Director's Welcome Message
Welcome to the Office of Multicultural Affairs Website!
Our office works along with the office of student affairs to provide support in recruitment, counseling, mentoring activities, summer program development and implementation. I received my dental and prosthodontic specialty training here at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and it is a privilege to play a role in the educational process of so many young people who are pursuing their dream of becoming dentists.
The Michigan tradition is grounded in providing opportunities to all qualified students regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or religion. The Office of Multicultural Affairs recruits students from high school through graduate school for the dental profession. We offer summer programs for students from “disadvantaged backgrounds” in high school, college and a pre-matriculation program for entering dental students.
The School of Dentistry was among the first dental schools to actively recruit and enroll students from diverse backgrounds. In fact, this effort has grown such that over the past thirty-one years the University of Michigan has continued to be a leader in graduating dentists from underrepresented groups.
